South Jakarta Administration Involves Sub-district and Village Heads in Rabies Control

The South Jakarta City Administration (Pemkot Jaksel) is involving sub-district and village heads in rabies control by accelerating vaccinations for rabies-prone animals (HPR).

During a regional coordination meeting at the Antasari Room of the South Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Thursday, South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo requested that the programme be socialised massively to the public, allowing residents to receive early information and plan their pet care.

Syafrin asked the sub-district and village heads to create a healthy environment by paying attention to the presence of rabies-prone animals in their respective areas. He assessed that regional government assistance is needed to ensure the animal husbandry programme runs optimally, both in terms of achievements and the implementation process.

He also requested that village and sub-district heads conduct an inventory of both stray and owned rabies-prone animals as part of the effort to create a healthy environment.

Meanwhile, Head of the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, stated that free vaccinations are being carried out through mobile services and at posts located in child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA) and community unit halls (Balai RW).

He noted that the vaccination target in South Jakarta is approximately 10,200 animals susceptible to rabies, including dogs, cats, monkeys, and civets. In addition to vaccination, the agency is targeting the sterilisation of 2,500 feral cats in 2026 to control the population and follow up on public complaints. He confirmed that the sterilisation of feral cats is also free of charge.
