South Jakarta Administration Builds Water Channel on Jalan Muchtar Raya to Tackle Flooding

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta City Administration (Pemkot Jaksel) is constructing a water channel on Jalan Muchtar Raya, Petukangan Utara Village, Pesanggrahan District.

“This is actually a border area, involving not only South Jakarta but also West Jakarta and Tangerang. We have conducted a review and coordination regarding its handling,” said South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He stated that the effort is a follow-up to residents’ reports concerning frequent inundation in the area, especially during high-intensity rainfall. He explained that the flooding problem in the area requires cross-regional and inter-agency synergy to ensure comprehensive and sustainable handling.

“Collaboration between agencies to accelerate the resolution of various infrastructure issues, particularly those related to controlling inundation and flooding in border areas, is essential,” Syafrin said. “I hope this work can be realised soon with a comprehensive solution so that residents in the Jakarta and Tangerang border areas can experience a safe and comfortable living environment.”

Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) Santo added that the channel repair on Jalan Muchtar Raya is being carried out along 243.8 metres in the South Jakarta area and 680.6 metres in the West Jakarta area. He mentioned that the procurement process for the project began with a tender on 25 June 2026, and construction work is targeted to commence in the second week of July 2026 by the appointed contractor.

“Hopefully, the construction of this channel will proceed well and smoothly. During the work, we also urge residents to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion,” Santo said.
