South Aceh Accelerates Infrastructure Spending Ahead of Rainy Season

The South Aceh Regency Government is accelerating the use of additional Regional Transfer Funds (TKD) to improve basic infrastructure before the rainy season arrives. Infrastructure budget realisation is targeted to exceed 50 percent by August so that the benefits of development can be felt more quickly by the community.

Of South Aceh’s additional TKD of approximately Rp51.6 billion, Rp26.1 billion has been allocated for the infrastructure sector. To date, realisation has reached Rp9.9 billion, or around 37.9 percent of that ceiling.

Acting Head of the South Aceh Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Skar Fharaby, said the budget is being used for a number of priority works. These projects include the normalisation of Krueng Trumon, construction of a bridge in Seuneubok Puntho, and development of an irrigation network in Padang Harapan Village.

“The target for this August is, if possible, above 50 percent so that the budget is absorbed promptly and on-site handling is completed quickly. We are approaching the rainy season, so all work needs to be accelerated,” he said in a written statement on Sunday (16/8/2026).

The normalisation of Krueng Trumon is one of the most urgent works because the river plays an important role in channelling water to rice field areas. Addressing the siltation is expected to improve water flow, reduce the risk of overflow, and protect the agricultural activities of residents.

Flood control efforts are also being strengthened through the construction of 3,800 metres of drainage in Padang Harapan Village. This infrastructure is expected to channel standing water more quickly and reduce the recurring threat of flooding whenever rainfall increases.

Nur Diayati (43), a resident of Padang Harapan Village, hopes the development will provide a solution for residential areas that are frequently inundated.

“Hopefully, once the drainage is in place, our village will no longer flood. Up to now, flooding has occurred almost every year. With the drainage, we hope the water can flow directly away,” said Nur.

Field Coordinator for the Padang Harapan Village Drainage Project, T. Chairumansyah, said the work has a budget value of around Rp59 billion. Similar projects are also being carried out in five regencies and cities across Aceh with a total value of approximately Rp285 billion.

The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra is supporting the South Aceh Regency Government’s efforts by monitoring work progress and the realisation of the additional TKD. Overall, utilisation of South Aceh’s additional TKD has reached Rp24.8 billion, or 48.04 percent of the approximately Rp51.6 billion ceiling.

Representative of the Aceh Satgas PRR Team from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Imran, hopes the acceleration of works can strengthen protection for communities from subsequent flooding.

“When water levels rise, we hope the flow can be contained and distributed properly so that it does not overflow or inundate roads,” said Imran.

The Satgas PRR is also encouraging the normalisation of Krueng Trumon to be supported by the construction of an Armco bridge to strengthen connectivity and the economic mobility of residents.
