Source Reveals Latest Condition of Mojtaba Khamenei: Face Damaged and Legs Injured
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly still recovering from injuries to his face and legs. This condition apparently occurred during the airstrike that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the outset of the war with the United States and Israel.
Citing Reuters, the latest condition suffered by Mojtaba Khamenei was conveyed by three people in his inner circle. “Khamenei’s face was severely damaged in the attack on the Supreme Leader’s complex in central Tehran, and he suffered serious injuries to one or both of his legs,” the three sources stated, according to Reuters, on Sunday (12/4/2026).
Although recovering from his injuries, the 56-year-old man remains mentally sharp. Even according to sources who requested anonymity, he is still participating in meetings with senior officials via audio conferences and is involved in decision-making on major issues, including the war and negotiations with Washington, two of them said.
Questions about whether Mojtaba Khamenei’s health allows him to conduct state affairs have arisen as Iran faces its worst threat in decades, with high-risk peace negotiations with the United States beginning in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Saturday.
Details from people close to Khamenei’s inner circle provide the most detailed picture of the leader’s condition in recent weeks. Unfortunately, Reuters could not independently verify their statements.
Khamenei’s presence, condition, and ability to lead remain largely a mystery to the public, with no photos, videos, or audio recordings of him published since the airstrike and his appointment as his father’s successor on 8 March.
