Source: Nine Indonesian Nationals Kidnapped by Israel in Good Health, Not Facing Criminal Charges

Israeli authorities are reportedly not going to press criminal charges against nine Indonesian nationals who are being held. They are currently undergoing document checks. A Republika source who contacted Israeli officials about the condition of the Indonesians abducted on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, said, “Nine Indonesians are in good health.” He added that Israeli authorities have so far found no element of criminality related to the Indonesians’ action in breaching Gaza, a factor that could lead to an earlier release of the detainees. The nine are undergoing document processing at Ashdod Port, in territory controlled by Israel. However, checks have been hampered because many officers are on leave due to religious holidays in Israel. Israel has abducted nine Indonesian citizens, including four journalists. They were captured in international waters near Cyprus, about 250 nautical miles from Gaza. Among those seized are two Republika journalists Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai. Also detained are Andi Angga Prasadewa from Rumah Zakat; Tempo TV journalist Andre Prasetyo; correspondent Nugroho Rahendro Herubowo; Herman Budianto Sudarsono and Ronggo Wirasanu from Dompet Dhuafa; Asad Aras Muhammad from Spirit of Aqsa; and Hendro Prasetyo from Smart 171. The Global Sumud Flotilla committee also stated that the participants in the Global Sumud Armada who were abducted by Israel may be transported to Ketziot Prison. Consular authorities were reportedly preparing to accompany the international activists and journalists detained by Israel, including Indonesians. In an official statement released by the committee, the latest information from the consulate indicated that the Israeli authorities would begin arranging consular visits after the volunteers arrive at Ashdod port. Ashdod Port is described as the initial processing site before the activists are moved to Ketziot, a facility long known as a detention site for Palestinians and security detainees. “The latest information received by the consulate directly from Israeli authorities is that tomorrow, after they arrive in Ashdod, they will be processed and moved to Ketziot, and consular assistance visits will begin to be arranged,” the Global Sumud Flotilla committee said in its statement, early Wednesday dawn UK time or Tuesday night Palestinian time.
