Sound System Owner Scolded by Wife for 24 Hours After Calling East Java MUI 'Stupid'

Setyo Budi Mularso, the owner of the Aeromax ‘sound horeg’ business from Karanganyar, has come under scrutiny after calling the East Java Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) ‘stupid’ during a live broadcast on a television station. Budi admitted that he has been reprimanded by his wife and child at home due to his actions.

“I have been lectured by my wife and child; automatically, they have been lecturing me 24 hours a day at home. I have been advised to stick to more reasonable practices,” Budi stated, as reported by detikJatim on Friday (11/9/2026).

Budi has also extended an apology to the MUI in Karanganyar. Following the uproar caused by his remarks, Budi intends to stop operating ‘sound horeg’ (high-decibel sound systems). He stated that he plans to refocus on music concerts using standard sound configurations.

“I have personally expressed that I erred with my statement. I have also conveyed from the bottom of my heart, sincerely, that I was in error. And I repent,” said Budi.

Contacted separately, the Chairman of the Karanganyar MUI, KH Badaruddin, stated that he has forgiven Budi’s remarks regarding the East Java MUI. He noted that Budi has acknowledged his mistake.

“As a Muslim, I forgive. Since he has apologised to the MUI of East Java, Central Java, and Indonesia, including the Karanganyar MUI, I have forgiven him. Let us ensure this does not happen again,” said Badaruddin.
