Sorong Regency Distributes BSPS Programme to 500 Indigenous Papuans
Aimas (ANTARA) - The Sorong Regency government, Southwest Papua, is distributing the 2026 Ministry/Agency Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme to 500 Indigenous Papuans (OAP) as an effort to improve the quality of community housing.
The Expert Staff to the Regent of Sorong for Economy and Finance, Luis Maurits Osok, stated in Aimas on Saturday that the assistance is provided to help the community enhance their living standards through self-help construction and home improvements.
“We must view this government assistance as an opportunity that should not be wasted. The opportunity we have now is not necessarily the same as the opportunities that will come in the future,” said Luis.
According to him, those who have received assistance this year are not guaranteed to receive similar aid in the following year, as government programmes must reach other members of the community in need.
He expressed hope that the provided building materials could be utilised to their maximum potential to improve house quality and support the welfare of the beneficiary families.
“We may receive assistance this year, but next year we might not receive it again because we have already been assisted previously,” he added.
Luis also expressed his appreciation to the Sorong Regency Government, particularly the Sorong Regency Social Affairs Office and its staff, for their continuous attention to the needs of the community, especially groups requiring government support.
He noted that such attention is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that assistance programmes reach the right targets and provide direct benefits.
“Hopefully, assistance such as this is used and utilised well. This is a blessing and grace bestowed upon the people of Sorong Regency,” he concluded.
