Sorong Ramadan Fair 2026 to Drive UMKM Growth and Strengthen Community Ties
Sorong, West Papua — Sorong Ramadan Fair 2026 officially opened on Saturday, 7 March, at Lapangan Apel, the Sorong City Hall grounds. The event is one of the annual agendas to enliven the holy month of Ramadan and to boost growth of local micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). The opening was led by Abdul Rahim Oeli, Senior Staff for Government, Law and Politics (SAHLI PHP), on behalf of Sorong Mayor Septinus Lobat. Also present were the Sorong DPRK Deputy Speaker II Michael Ricky Tanery, and Eksan Musa’ad, Head of the Economy and Development Administration Bureau of the West Papua Province SETDA, representing the Governor of West Papua Selatan.
In the Mayor’s address, read by Abdul Rahim Oeli, the City Government extended Ramadan wishes to Muslims in Sorong and expressed hope that the Ramadan momentum would strengthen faith and deepen ties among residents. “The Sorong City Government welcomes and appreciates all the committee members who initiated the Sorong Ramadan Fair. This event is not only a proclamation of Ramadan, but also aligns with the Government’s efforts to promote local UMKM growth,” he said.
He added that through the event, culinary and craft producers would have space to market their products during the holy month. Additionally, the public would be facilitated in obtaining takjil and buka puasa needs at affordable prices.
Sorong Ramadan Fair is also expected to serve as a forum to strengthen community togetherness among people from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the diversity and harmony found in Sorong.
The Sorong City Government also urged all residents to maintain cleanliness and order throughout the event, in line with the commitment to building a Sorong that is advanced, clean, green, and prosperous. UMKM players were urged to maintain product quality and uphold honesty in trading.
With the completion of this event, it is hoped that the Ramadan atmosphere in Sorong will proceed peacefully and safely, bringing blessings to all residents.
