Sorong Mayor Lays First Stone for GKI Training Centre in Tanah Papua
Sorong Mayor Septinus Lobat laid the first stone for the construction of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) Training and Development Centre in Tanah Papua on Jalan Kapitan Pattimura, Tanjung Saoka, Sorong City, Southwest Papua, on Tuesday (11/8).
Septinus was also entrusted to serve as Chair of the Construction Committee for the GKI Training and Development Centre in Tanah Papua. The event was attended by Sorong City DPR Speaker Jhon Lewerissa, Southwest Papua Police Chief Brigadier General Pol Yulius Audie Sonny Latuheru, Sorong Chief Prosecutor Frenki Son Laku, members of the Sorong City DPR, pastors from across Southwest Papua, and heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD).
The GKI Training and Development Centre in Tanah Papua is being built as a training and development facility for pastors, servants of God, and congregations. The construction of the facility is intended to support the improvement of human resource quality grounded in faith and religious values.
The training centre stands on approximately 4.3 hectares of land in the Gerbang Saoka area, Jalan Kapitan Pattimura. Planned facilities include perimeter fencing, three gate structures, a hall building with a capacity of 500 people, six resort units and public facilities, a wedding chapel, a jetty, a prayer garden, a sports centre, and a playground. The total construction budget is estimated to reach Rp56.7 billion.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, the committee named the facility the Pastor Andrikus Mofu Training and Development Centre.
Septinus said the construction of the training centre is expected to support church ministry while improving human resource capacity in Tanah Papua.
“The construction of this training and development centre is expected to provide benefits for the development of church ministry as well as the improvement of human resource quality in Tanah Papua,” said Septinus.
The laying of the first stone marks the start of construction of the facility, which will later be used for various GKI training and development activities in Tanah Papua.
