Sorong City Government Calls on Residents to Strengthen Brotherhood and Harmony for Maulid Nabi 1448 H
The Sorong city government has called on the public to strengthen brotherhood, unity and harmony in community life. The appeal was made during the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW 1448 Hijriah commemoration organised by the Badan Kontak Majelis Taklim (BKMT) of Sorong City at the Al Akbar Mosque hall on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
Deputy Mayor of Sorong Anshar Karim said the Maulid Nabi commemoration is a momentum to emulate the values taught by the Prophet in daily life. These values include honesty, trustworthiness, compassion, brotherhood, justice and care for others.
“The Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW commemoration should be a momentum to strengthen brotherhood, maintain unity and increase care for others,” said Anshar.
According to him, the development of Sorong City requires the support and participation of the entire community. This cooperation must be built by prioritising mutual respect without distinguishing religion, ethnicity, custom or culture.
Anshar invited the public to maintain unity and strengthen harmony as important capital in regional development. He said that a safe and harmonious community will support the government in implementing various development programmes.
“Regional development requires the support, participation and cooperation of the entire community without distinguishing religious, ethnic, customary or cultural backgrounds,” he said.
BKMT Sorong City adviser Jemima Elisabeth Lobat said the Maulid Nabi commemoration should not merely be a ceremonial religious activity. The momentum should be used to reflect on the Prophet’s example and apply it in community life.
Jemima assessed that development is not only measured by physical, technological and economic progress. Development must also be accompanied by strengthening character, integrity, ethics and social awareness.
“The values of the Prophet’s example are important to apply in daily life so as to form a society that is advanced while also having a harmonious social life,” she said.
The Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW 1448 Hijriah commemoration was attended by leaders of regional apparatus organisations within the Sorong City government, regional government officials, BKMT administrators and invited guests.
The Sorong city government hopes the Maulid commemoration can strengthen relations between residents and increase the spirit of mutual cooperation. The values of brotherhood and harmony are considered important to keep Sorong City safe, peaceful and conducive.
Anshar also expressed appreciation to the committee and all parties who contributed to the implementation of the event. The Sorong city government hopes that religious activities can continue to be a space for strengthening togetherness and social awareness within the community.
