Sony's market targets
TOKYO (AFP): Sony Corp. is targeting eight countries as
priority markets in a new strategy to cope with the rising yen
and rapidly changing market structure, a spokeswoman said
yesterday.
The priority markets are Argentina, Brazil, China, India,
Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and Vietnam, a Sony spokeswoman
said.
The major consumer electronics company will reorganize its
global production and sales structure for television sets and
audiovisual equipment. Sony already plans to raise overseas
production to 50 percent of its overall production by March 1996,
up from the current 42 percent.
For instance, the Japanese company has applied to set up a
wholly-owned subsidiary in Indonesia to start production of color
television sets and audio equipment, and plans to expand
production in Brazil, the spokeswoman said.
