Sony Sonjaya's Justice Collaborator Request Under LPSK Verification
The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is verifying the justice collaborator (JC) application submitted by former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya in the alleged corruption case concerning the free nutritious meal programme. LPSK Deputy Chair Wawan Fahrudin stated on Wednesday (24/6) that the application is currently at the document verification stage by the agency’s application receipt team. “The application process is currently in the document verification stage by the application receipt team,” Wawan said. He explained that the JC application was submitted by Sony Sonjaya’s legal team on 9 June 2026. The legal counsel also submitted a written request for protection for Sony’s family to the LPSK Chair. LPSK is now gathering data, facts, and information, and coordinating with law enforcement and related parties to examine the statements and evidence provided through the suspect’s legal counsel. “The review of the application is conducted by LPSK within 30 working days after the application is declared complete,” he added. The JC application relates to the alleged corruption case in the management of the 2025-2026 Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme handled by the Attorney General’s Office. Sony Sonjaya’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, stated that all requirements for the JC application have been fulfilled and are now being reviewed by LPSK. “We continue to submit the JC application to LPSK. All requirements have been completed by us,” Krisna told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to Krisna, the application was filed because Sony and his family felt they had not received security guarantees after revealing dozens of names allegedly linked to the case. Previously, the Attorney General’s Office rejected the JC application submitted by Sony Sonjaya. The Director of Investigation at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Sony did not meet the requirements to be a justice collaborator in the case of the alleged buying and selling of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) points. Syarief explained that the JC application is regulated in Law Number 31 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 13 of 2006 on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims, as well as Supreme Court Circular Letter Number 4 of 2011. A person can obtain JC status if they are not the main perpetrator and admit their actions. According to Syarief, the results of the examination and research into Sony’s statements indicated that the person concerned is suspected of being the main perpetrator in the case. Furthermore, Sony has not yet admitted his actions, which is one of the requirements for a JC application. Krisna stated that he respects the decision of the Attorney General’s Office investigation team that rejected the JC application. According to him, the investigation of the case should not depend on the justice collaborator status, as prosecutors still have various other legal instruments to uncover the case.
