Sony Sonjaya's Camp Disappointed as Attorney General's Office Rejects Justice Collaborator Status
The defence team for suspect Sony Sonjaya is disappointed that the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has rejected his application for justice collaborator (JC) status in connection with the corruption case involving the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Attorney Krisna Murti stated that his client merely wished to cooperate with the investigation team to reveal all parties involved in the corruption scandal at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). According to Krisna, Sony still hopes that the investigating team from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) will change its stance.
“I personally, as his lawyer, respect and appreciate the prosecutor’s decision regarding our client’s rejected justice collaborator application,” Krisna said when contacted from Jakarta on Wednesday (24/6/2026). He suggested that the rejection indicates a lack of readiness on the part of the investigators to seriously pursue all the names implicated in the MBG governance scandal at BGN. “This is deeply regrettable. At a time when Mr Sony Sonjaya wishes to disclose all parties suspected of having a significant role in this MBG corruption, and is ready to testify against major names allegedly linked to the corruption involving the sale of SPPG points across Indonesia, his JC application was rejected,” Krisna added.
According to Krisna, Sony remains committed to cooperating with investigators, as he still holds dozens of names involved in the corruption. Krisna argued that the Jampidsus investigation team should have provided Sony with the opportunity to participate in proving the involvement of other individuals in the MBG corruption. “So that there is room for Mr Sony Sonjaya to voice the truth behind this MBG corruption. In reality, besides having provided names and information, he is also ready to provide valid evidence,” Krisna stated.
On Tuesday (23/6/2026), the Attorney General’s Office announced the outcome of the justice collaborator application submitted by Sony as a suspect in the MBG corruption case. Jampidsus Director of Investigation Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi stated that his team found Sony did not qualify as a JC. Syarief explained that Sony was the main perpetrator in the MBG governance corruption at BGN. Furthermore, Syarief noted that the suspect has not admitted to his actions. Based on these factors, the investigators could not grant the requested JC status. “On these grounds, we have not been able to grant the justice collaborator request, or we have rejected the justice collaborator application from suspect SS,” Syarief stated.
