Sony Sonjaya Reveals 41 Names and Flags Problematic Rp300 Billion CCTV Project for Free Meals Programme at Attorney General's Office

The examination of former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, as a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme has uncovered several new facts currently being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office. In addition to revealing an increase in the list of parties suspected of requesting Nutrition Service Fulfilment Unit (SPPG) points, Sony also disclosed information regarding a problematic procurement project for CCTV and fingerprint scanners worth hundreds of billions of rupiah. The information was conveyed by Sony while undergoing questioning as a suspect at the Round Building of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) on Thursday, 18 June 2026. Sony’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, stated that investigators also confirmed a number of data stored in his client’s mobile phone, including conversations related to requests for SPPG points from various parties. “Investigators confirmed the data on point requests. Mr Sony’s WhatsApp was opened, then they checked who requested and in which areas,” Krisna told reporters, as quoted on Friday, 19 June 2026. As a result of this investigation, the number of names previously mentioned as 26 has now increased to 41. “The total now stands at 41 names,” he said. According to Krisna, the addition came from the discovery of a new list of names in one of the conversations examined by investigators. Furthermore, Sony also provided several additional names that had not been submitted before. When asked whether the dozens of names were linked to requests for SPPG points, Krisna confirmed it. “Yes, it is related to the SPPG issue,” he said. However, he stressed that the existence of these names does not automatically indicate involvement in criminal corruption. Investigators are still probing whether the requested SPPG points were subsequently traded or not. “Mr Sony answered that he did not know after the points were given, whether they were sold or not,” he said. Krisna also mentioned that his client denied receiving any personal benefit from the allocation of SPPG points. “He was also asked what Mr Sony’s benefit was. He answered that the goal was to achieve the SPPG formation target. When asked if he received money, he answered no,” Krisna stated. Apart from the SPPG issue, Sony also revealed another alleged irregularity which he claims has a much larger value than the case currently under investigation.
