Sony Sonjaya Requests Justice Collaborator Status, Attorney General's Office Still Assessing His Ability to Unravel the MBG Case

The opportunity for former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, to obtain justice collaborator (JC) status in the alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme remains in the hands of investigators at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung). To date, the Kejagung has not made a decision on the request submitted by Sony. However, the institution has confirmed that the assessment process is underway and the results will be announced soon.

The Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Kejagung, Febrie Adriansyah, revealed that there are several aspects being examined by investigators before determining whether Sony is eligible for justice collaborator status. One key consideration is the extent to which Sony’s testimony can help dismantle the construction of the case, including revealing other parties suspected of being involved.

“Firstly, we look at the existing evidence. Is his testimony still needed? Secondly, to what extent can he, as a JC, maximise his capacity? This still requires time, we have not decided yet,” said Febrie on Monday, 15 June 2026.

According to Febrie, investigators have also not concluded Sony’s position in the case. Currently, the investigative team is still mapping out the roles of each party who has been named a suspect, as well as those suspected of being linked to the alleged MBG corruption case. This mapping is considered important as it will serve as one of the bases for determining whether an individual meets the requirements to be treated as a justice collaborator.

“This is what we are assessing. There are many fragments from the actions, then later Articles 55 and 56, the involvement of each party will be examined, so that we can then confirm. So, investigators are working seriously and quickly,” he stated. The Adhyaksa Corps has assured that the investigation will not stop at just one party. The entire series of alleged criminal acts, including the possibility of involvement by other parties working together in the case, will be thoroughly traced. It was previously reported that Sony Sonjaya was named a suspect in the alleged criminal corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Programme for the years 2025-2026.
