Sony Sonjaya Officially Applies for Justice Collaborator Status, Claims to Have Named Over 20 Individuals to Attorney General's Office in MBG Corruption Case
New developments have emerged in the investigation into alleged corruption regarding the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Sony Sonjaya, the former Deputy Head of the BGN who is currently a suspect, has chosen to apply for Justice Collaborator (JC) status. Through his legal counsel, it is claimed that Sony has begun disclosing information regarding other parties allegedly linked to the case currently being handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
Sony’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, stated that the JC application has been officially submitted to investigators at the Attorney General’s Office. He noted that this step is a form of cooperation by his client to help uncover parties playing larger roles in the matter involving the presidential programme. “This means we are cooperating with investigators to reveal roles that are larger than the programme I previously mentioned,” Krisna Murti said at the Attorney General’s Office building in South Jakarta on Monday, 8 June 2026.
Krisna emphasised that the JC application is not an attempt to evade the legal process. On the contrary, he stated that Sony is prepared to be cooperative and provide the information required by investigators to expand the case. During examinations already conducted, Sony is said to have provided dozens of names to investigators, though it is claimed this list is not yet exhaustive. “More than 20 names were mentioned, but our client says that is only a portion,” he said.
This statement opens the possibility that the investigation into the MBG programme will expand significantly. According to Krisna, his client believes many parties were involved in the processes currently under investigation. He added that Sony does not want the entire responsibility for the case to fall solely on him, especially as various activities related to the formation and operation of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) reportedly involve numerous stakeholders. In addition to the Attorney General’s Office, Sony has also submitted a Justice Collaborator application to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). His legal team hopes this status will assist investigators in tracing other suspected related parties. “With the JC status, we can make it easier for investigators to expand the investigation into the related parties,” he concluded.
