Sony Sonjaya Dashes into AGO Building, Refuses Comment Ahead of MBG Corruption Case Examination

Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya is once again in the spotlight. The suspect in the alleged corruption case of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) chose to remain tight-lipped while undergoing examination at the Round Building of the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026. Sony’s arrival had been anticipated by the media since morning. However, the former BGN senior official did not offer any comment regarding the case that has ensnared him. Upon alighting from the detention vehicle, Sony immediately hurried into the examination building under the escort of officers. Various questions posed by journalists concerning the progress of the MBG corruption case received no response. This examination was conducted amid the AGO’s efforts to investigate alleged major irregularities in the management of the MBG Programme for the 2025-2026 period. Sony is known to be one of five suspects named by investigators. Besides him, the AGO has also charged former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, former BGN Deputy Head Lodewyk Pusung, Asep Yusuf Somantri (AYS), and PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal (YAT) Commissioner Andri Mulyono. In this case, investigators are probing the alleged practice of price inflation or mark-up in a number of goods and services procurement projects within the BGN. Several procurements that are the focus of the investigation include electric motorcycles, shoes, tablets, and televisions, which are suspected of not matching the actual needs of the programme in the field. For their alleged actions, the suspects are charged under Articles 603 and 604 of the New Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption, related to acts of unlawfully enriching oneself or others involving corporations, organisations, or business groups.
