Sony Sonjaya arrives at AGO for questioning in MBG corruption case

Jakarta - Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya arrived at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) building at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) in Jakarta on Thursday to undergo questioning as a suspect in the alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme for 2025-2026. Based on monitoring, Sony arrived at the Jampidsus building at 09:24 WIB in a detention vehicle. When he exited the vehicle, journalists asked about today’s questioning. However, he did not answer and only smiled. Sony then immediately entered the building for questioning. The retired police officer also appeared to be carrying a notebook and a pen. Meanwhile, Sony Sonjaya’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, arrived earlier at the Jampidsus building at 09:18 WIB. However, Krisna did not explain the details of today’s questioning and went straight into the building. It is known that Jampidsus investigators have named five suspects in this case: former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, former BGN Deputy Head for Organisational Development and Institutional Relations Lodewyk Pusung, former BGN Deputy Head for Nutritional Fulfilment Operations Sony Sonjaya, Asep Yusuf Soemantri, and Commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal (YAT) Andri Mulyono. Sony had previously applied to become a justice collaborator (JC) to assist in uncovering the case. The request was submitted through Krisna Murti to Jampidsus on Monday (8/6). Krisna stated that his client applied for justice collaborator status because he wishes to reveal the parties allegedly involved in the case while also explaining his role in the matter under investigation. According to Krisna, Sony believes he has been perceived as the party responsible for selling the kitchen points of the Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), whereas in reality there was pressure and direction from other parties. ‘This means that all this time he has been cornered as the one selling the kitchen points, the one playing with those kitchens. Whereas according to Mr Sony, he was under pressure, there was attention,’ Krisna revealed. ‘He was under the attention of big names that he will convey himself later. He will convey it in court. That he was pressured, that he was not the mastermind. That it should not be assumed that selling those kitchens was his doing. That was his only consideration yesterday,’ he added.
