Sony Sanjaya Seeks Justice Collaborator Status, Prepared to Name Key Figures in MBG Corruption Scandal
Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya has completed his examination by investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) in the alleged corruption case concerning the Nutritional Services Fulfilment Unit (SPPG). Sony asserted that he is ready to become a Justice Collaborator (JC), or a cooperating witness. Sony’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, stated that his client’s decision to become a JC was solely to shed full light on this case. This step simultaneously refutes allegations that Sony was the mastermind behind the buying and selling of SPPG locations for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. “Mr Sony has stated he is ready to become a Justice Collaborator. This commitment has been recorded in the investigation report at the Prosecutor’s Office,” Krisna said when contacted on Thursday (4/6). Krisna mentioned that Sony is prepared to reveal major names suspected of involvement in this case. However, Krisna has not yet disclosed the identities of the figures in question. “According to my client, it clearly involves figures from executive and legislative circles. My client is ready to reveal everything,” he added. Furthermore, Krisna stated that the formal application letter for JC status will soon be submitted to the Attorney General’s Office. He hopes this step will clarify the case transparently. “In due time, the names of the involved figures will be revealed in court. This is a gesture of good faith from Mr Sony so that his case is transparent,” he asserted. It is known that the Attorney General’s Office has named three suspects in the MBG programme governance corruption case, namely former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, and two former BGN Deputy Heads, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung. The three are charged under Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20 letter a or c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Law Number 20 of 2001. The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the alleged trading of recommendations for establishing SPPGs in the MBG corruption case that has ensnared Dadan Hindayana and others. The Attorney General’s Office also conducted a search operation at several locations in the Jakarta area on Thursday (4/6/2026) related to the alleged MBG corruption case.
