Sony Reveals 41 Major Figures to Investigators in MBG Corruption Case

Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, has disclosed additional names allegedly involved in the corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. Sony’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, stated that during questioning on Thursday (18/6), the number of names his client provided to investigators increased from 26 to 41 figures. Krisna explained the increase occurred because certain individuals requested allocations of Nutrition Service Fulfilment Unit (SPPG) points for parties affiliated with them. ‘So one person had a table, saying, “Sir, this one belongs to this person, this one belongs to that person, this one belongs to this regent,” and so on,’ he told reporters at the Attorney General’s Office. ‘The investigator opened the chat, and it turned out there was a table filled with proposals for new people. So the total increased from 26 to 41 names based on the new findings,’ he added. However, Krisna declined to reveal the identities of the 41 figures or confirm names already circulating on social media. ‘Some of what’s circulating is true, some is not. The new findings are names that have not been circulated anywhere,’ he said. The Attorney General’s Office has named five suspects in the MBG programme corruption case for the 2025-2026 period. They are former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana; former BGN Deputy Heads Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung; Sony’s associate Asep Yusuf Somantri; and PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal Commissioner Andri Mulyono. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the MBG programme was supposed to be managed by SPPG foundations affiliated with recipient schools. However, in practice, many SPPGs were appointed due to their affiliations with BGN officials, and many foundations did not meet the requirements to become SPPG partners. The case also involves price mark-ups in procurement, including 21,801 electric motorcycles worth IDR 1.03 trillion, 32,000 pairs of shoes, 31,994 tablets, and 5,400 75-inch televisions.
