Sony Releases Portable AC, Capable of Keeping Back Cool for Up to 15 Hours
Technology company Sony has launched its latest electronic device, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus. This wearable body temperature regulator, worn on the back of the neck, is designed to help users stay cool during activities, particularly in hot weather. The Reon Pocket line has been developed by Sony in Japan since 2019, and the company is now bringing the latest version to the United States market.
As the newest generation, Sony claims that the cooling capability of the Reon Pocket Pro Plus has increased by up to 20 per cent compared to its predecessor. The cooling plate on this device is also touted to be able to lower temperatures by an additional 2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous model. Notably, in addition to functioning as a cooling engine, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus also supports a heating mode for use in cold weather.
The neckband on this device is flexibly designed to attach more stably to the shoulders, preventing it from shifting easily when the user walks or bends. The hot air ventilation part has also been made adjustable in position and angle, ensuring that the hot air exhausted by the device does not easily get trapped behind clothing collars or jackets.
Internally, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus is equipped with two thermo-modules and a sensor system that functions to monitor the user’s skin temperature. Temperature adjustment can be performed in two ways: manually via a physical button on the side of the device, or through a companion smartphone application. When connected to the companion app, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus’s smart mode will automatically adjust the level of cooling or heating based on the surrounding environmental conditions.
Sony claims that the battery of the Reon Pocket Pro Plus can last up to 15 hours when used in smart cooling mode. Operating with silent sound, the device is considered comfortable for use in offices or indoors without the worry of disturbing others. The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is also available with an additional accessory called the Wearable Sensing Device, or Reon Pocket Tag 2.
