Sony quietly raises prices for two PlayStation Plus subscription packages
Sony has raised prices for two PlayStation Plus subscription packages, Extra and Premium, in several regions. The company previously announced adjustments to PlayStation Plus pricing for new customers citing ‘market conditions’, with many users assuming the increase applied only to the Essential tier. However, recent price details reveal Sony has also increased rates for Extra and Premium packages, for both monthly and three-month subscriptions. For the monthly package, PlayStation Plus Premium now costs US$19.99 (approximately Rp355,800 at an exchange rate of Rp17,800 per US dollar), up from US$17.99 (approx. Rp320,200). The Extra package has risen from US$14.99 (approx. Rp266,800) to US$16.99 (approx. Rp302,400). Similar increases apply to three-month subscriptions. PlayStation Plus Premium now stands at US$54.99 (approx. Rp978,800), up from US$49.99 (approx. Rp889,800), while Extra has increased from US$39.99 (approx. Rp711,800) to US$43.99 (approx. Rp783,000). The Essential tier also saw a rise from US$24.99 (approx. Rp444,800) to US$27.99 (approx. Rp498,200). Sony had previously stated that new customers would ‘begin’ with US$10.99 for a monthly package and US$27.99 for three months, leading some users to believe only Essential was affected. The company cited current market conditions as the reason for the price hikes but did not specify other factors behind the tariff changes. PlayStation Plus is a subscription service for PlayStation consoles providing online gaming access, a game catalog, and exclusive benefits. It is available in three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Extra offers access to hundreds of PlayStation 4 and 5 games, while Premium includes all Extra benefits plus classic game collections, game trials, and additional features.
