Sons lock up cranky father

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara (JP): A peasant from the West Sumba district completed a 10-year prison term only to be locked up by his sons in a buffalo stall for another two months.

Ngongo Bili, 60, had his feet locked in wooden stocks in the buffalo stall of one of his three sons in November. The police rescued him only days before Christmas on a citizens' tip-off.

The sons told the police last week they wanted to silence their father who became cranky when he realized they had sold or slaughtered all of his cattle while he spent his years in jail.

Bili accused his sons of selling his cows, buffaloes and horses to support their lavish lifestyle, such as throwing parties.

Chief of the West Sumba police precinct Lt. Col. Sunaryo said the authorities were tracking down the village chief for allegedly helping the rebellious sons discipline their father.

Bili refused to say whether he would try to send his sons into the prison cell where he had spent 10 years of his life in pain. (yac/pan)
