Son of Fugitive Riza Chalid Also Sentenced to Pay Rp 2.9 Billion in Restitution
The son of fugitive Riza Chalid, Muhamad Kerry Adrianto Riza, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the crude oil management corruption case. Kerry was also ordered to pay restitution of Rp 2.9 billion.
“The defendant is sentenced to additional penalties, namely paying restitution of Rp 2,905,420,003,854, subsidiary to 5 years of imprisonment,” said the chairman of the panel of judges, Fajar Kusuma Aji, while reading the verdict at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Friday (February 27, 2026).
The judge also ordered Kerry to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion, which must be paid within 1 month and can be extended for a maximum of 1 month from the date the verdict takes effect.
The judge stipulated that if the fine is not paid within the specified period, the defendant’s assets or income may be seized and auctioned to pay the fine.
“In the event that the proceeds from the seizure or auction of assets or income are insufficient or impossible to carry out, the unpaid fine will be replaced with a prison sentence of 190 days,” said the judge.
The factors that aggravated Kerry’s sentence were that his actions did not support the government’s program to eradicate corruption. The mitigating factors were that Kerry had no prior convictions and had a family to support.
The verdict was not unanimous, as judge member 4, Mulyono Dwi Purwanto, had a dissenting opinion. Judge Mulyono doubted the procedure for calculating the amount of financial or economic losses in this case.
Judge Mulyono also argued that there was no malicious intent in the tank rental. He also stated that the tank was still in use and provided significant benefits to the state.
“In this situation, according to the panel member, it is unfair for the defendants from PT OTM to be tried and sentenced,” said Judge Mulyono.
The judge stated that Kerry Adrianto was found guilty of violating Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20 paragraph C of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Law.
Previously, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) had demanded a sentence of 18 years in prison, a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary to 190 days of imprisonment for Kerry Adrianto. The prosecutor also demanded that Kerry pay restitution of Rp 13,405,420,003,854, subsidiary to 10 years of imprisonment.
