Son Confesses to Dismembering Father in Brebes
A case involving the dismemberment of a father in Brebes Regency, Central Java, came to light after his son went to a police station and confessed to killing him.
The suspect, Hadi Sunoto, 24, is alleged to have killed his father, Waslam, 50, in late July 2026, then dismembered his body and discarded some of the remains.
Brebes Police Chief Senior Commissioner Muhammad Ali Akbar said the suspect went to Kersana Police Station on Thursday (15 October 2026) at around 5.30pm to confess.
“According to the suspect’s initial account, the incident took place in late July 2026 at around 8am at the victim’s home in Kemukten village, Kersana district, Brebes Regency,” he said, as quoted on Tuesday (20 October 2026).
At the time, Waslam was reportedly asleep in his bedroom. The suspect allegedly entered the room and cut his father’s throat with a kitchen knife.
The victim’s body was then dismembered. His legs were cut into three sections, and his head and hands were also severed.
The remains were taken to the suspect’s home in Meranti Mas housing complex, Block O, Kemukten village, Kersana district. There, the flesh was separated from the body parts.
“According to the suspect’s confession, the victim’s flesh was thrown into a river in Bulakamba district. The victim’s bones were burned behind the suspect’s house,” he said.
In his statement to police, the suspect said he acted out of anger and resentment towards his father. The victim allegedly did not work, while two witnesses living with him supported the household’s needs.
The victim was also said to have frequently asked the suspect for cigarettes. However, the motive remains a preliminary allegation and requires further investigation.
“After the incident, the suspect also allegedly tried to conceal the victim’s whereabouts. When one of the witnesses asked where Waslam was, the suspect claimed his father had gone with him to sell siomai in Tegal,” he said.
The suspect said he used his Honda Astrea motorbike to dispose of the remains. Police visited the scene on Saturday (17 October 2026) at around 1pm as part of their investigation.
