Muhammad Ikbal alias MI (25) has died, on Saturday 28 February 2026. He had previously suffered severe burns after being set alight by his biological mother, Sa’adiah (49). The incident occurred in Sepakat Village, Plampang District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Head of Public Relations at Sumbawa Police, Ipda Mulyawansyah, revealed that Ikbal breathed his last at NTB Regional Hospital in Mataram on Sunday afternoon. “The victim died at NTB Regional Hospital in Mataram this afternoon,” said Mulyawansyah when contacted by detikBali on Sunday evening.

Before being treated in Mataram, Ikbal had been admitted to Manambai Abdul Kadir Hospital (RSMA) in Sumbawa for several days. However, his condition became critical and he had to be referred further to NTB Regional Hospital in Mataram.

“He was treated by the medical team at NTB Regional Hospital, after his condition became critical and he survived for several days with severe burns across his entire body,” explained Mulyawansyah.

Earlier reports indicated that MI was allegedly burned by his biological mother at their home in Sepakat Village, Plampang District. SA allegedly doused the victim’s body with Pertalite petrol before igniting it with a lighter.

“The victim with initials MI was burned by his biological mother with initials SA using Pertalite fuel that was ignited using a lighter,” said Mulyawansyah, speaking to detikBali on Sunday evening.

The incident allegedly stemmed from a domestic dispute after an argument between mother and son regarding the son’s refusal to find grass to feed the cattle.
