Some Houses in Taman Mangu, Tangsel, Begin to Be Abandoned...
TANGERANG SELATAN, KOMPAS.com - “For sale” banners are lined up on several houses in the Taman Mangu Indah area, Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, on Sunday (3/5/2026).
Behind that simple wording lies a story of floods that come more frequently, even when the rain is no longer heavy.
Kompas.com’s observation at the location shows that houses located right across from the Ciputat River are the most affected points.
In several parts of the houses, traces of puddling can be seen reaching about 30 centimetres.
The neighbourhood roads are also not spared from the impact.
The asphalt appears cracked and uneven, with green moss growing in the gaps, indicating areas that are often inundated.
Those gaps in the road are said to become seepage paths for water from the river when it rains.
The road surface becomes damp and slippery.
The head of RT 04 RW 12 Taman Mangu Indah, Imawan Susanto (52), stated that the most noticeable change is the increased frequency of flooding.
“Now floods keep coming, a little rain and it floods immediately. Floods all the time,” said Imawan when met by Kompas.com at the location on Sunday.
Previously, floods only occurred at certain periods, about once every five years.
Now, within a year, floods can come several times.
“Even several times a year, sometimes I feel sorry for my residents whose houses haven’t been renovated yet, so they often get submerged,” he said.
Repeated flooding is considered to damage furniture and drain energy for continuous repairs.
Environmental Changes
The head of RT 02 RW 12, Sugiyanto (63), recalls the conditions when he first lived in the area in 1994.
