Some delegates use private jets
Not all delegates for the current UN meeting on sustainable
development in Bali utilized scheduled commercial flights to get
to Bali, as some chose to fly in their own private jets.
On Tuesday morning, the Ngurah Rai International Airport
received a delegate's private jet, a Boeing 737-200.
"It is the private jet of Saudi Arabia's delegate. Tonight, we
will receive another private jet, a Falcon 900 aircraft of the
Italian delegate," the Airport Authority chief IGM Dhordy said.
Dhordy disclosed that the Airport Authority had been prepared
for the visits of such private jets. The airport has space for 38
planes, including large ones.
"We have reserved twelve of those 38 spaces for private jets
belonging to the delegates for the meeting," he told The Jakarta
Post.
Dhordy had also already asked the neighboring Djuanda Airport
in Surabaya, East Java, and Selaparang Airport in Mataram, West
Nusa Tenggara, to prepare their facilities in case the number of
the incoming private jets exceeded the space available at Ngurah
Rai.
"But, it turns out that as of today only two private jets have
arrived. And so far I have not received any requests for landing
clearance from any other private jets," he said.
