Solok (ANTARA) – The Solok Regency Government in West Sumatra has set a six-month transition period for recovery from flash floods, following the end of a 21-day emergency response period.

The transition period was discussed at a regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda) focus group discussion chaired by Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu at the main disaster command post in Arosuka, within the Solok Regent’s Office complex, on Monday.

The event was attended by Deputy Regent Candra, Forkopimda representatives, the regional secretary, assistants, expert staff, heads of regional government organisations (OPDs), officials from the Ministry of Public Works’ regional office, representatives of the West Sumatra Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and representatives of state-owned and regional-owned enterprises.

The regent expressed his appreciation to all parties that had helped the local government respond to the disaster, from the emergency response through preparations for recovery in affected areas.

He said the transition period must be used to strengthen coordination between agencies and accelerate recovery, while preparing preventive measures to minimise the impact of similar disasters in the future.

Jon called on all OPD heads to improve communication and strengthen cooperation so that recovery programmes are properly coordinated and aligned with the needs of residents and conditions in affected areas.

Alongside coordination, the local government is prioritising the preparation of a Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P), which will provide the basis for recovery programmes after the emergency response period ends.

The regent asked all OPDs to prepare data and updates on work progress properly, and to speed up the delivery of aid to affected residents so their needs can be addressed promptly.

At the discussion, the local government and relevant parties also considered weather forecasts presented by a representative of the Minangkabau Class III Meteorological Station as they assessed measures to prevent further disasters.

According to the BMKG presentation, West Sumatra is expected to reach the peak of its rainy season in November and December 2026. Solok Regency is among the areas that should be alert to the risk of relatively heavy rainfall.

The BMKG said its weather forecasts would continue to be updated in line with atmospheric conditions. On Monday (12 October), Solok Regency was forecast to have moderate rain, while light rain was possible over the following five days.

The information will inform the local government and technical agencies as they devise mitigation measures, particularly in flash-flood-affected areas that are still undergoing recovery.

The Solok Regency Government hopes coordination among Forkopimda, technical agencies, the BMKG, state-owned and regional-owned enterprises, and other stakeholders will be strengthened so that the transition to recovery can be carried out effectively.

During the six-month transition, the local government aims to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction, ensure that aid reaches affected residents, and improve preparedness for potential further disasters.

The Solok Regency Government said the safety of residents and the restoration of the lives of those affected would remain its main priorities at every stage of post-disaster management.
