Two residents remain missing after flash floods struck Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on Monday night, 21 September 2026. The Solok Regency Government has now declared a state of emergency to accelerate disaster management efforts.

The search for the two individuals is a primary focus for joint task forces. SAR teams have been scouring the affected river currents to locate the victims.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Centre for Data and Disaster Communication, Berton Panjaitan, stated that the declaration of the emergency status was made through a coordination meeting led by the Vice Regent of Solok.

“The coordination meeting to establish the (emergency response) status has been conducted by the Vice Regent of Solok,” Berton said in Jakarta on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

In addition to casualties, the flash floods have damaged several facilities and impacted residential areas. The BNPB noted that 100 houses and 10 government offices were affected.

A bridge and several vehicles were also impacted by the powerful floodwaters. Berton noted that the disaster was triggered by very high-intensity rainfall, according to analysis from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Of the six residents affected, four sustained injuries; one person suffered serious injuries, while three others sustained minor injuries.

“Currently, there are 2 victims who have not been found, 1 seriously injured, and 3 lightly injured. Meanwhile, there are 50 displaced residents and 100 houses affected,” he said.

A total of 50 residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters. Simultaneously, officials are still conducting data collection to determine the full extent of the disaster’s impact.

SAR teams continue to expand the search for the two missing residents. The river remains a key area of focus as the flood carried heavy debris and rapid currents.

In addition to the search for victims, joint teams have begun clearing mud that has accumulated in several locations following the receding floodwaters.

“Data collection regarding the impact is still ongoing. Furthermore, SAR teams have searched the river, and joint teams have begun mud clearance operations,” he added.
