Solok Regency Declares 14-Day Disaster Emergency Status Following Flash Floods
The Solok Regency Government, West Sumatra, has declared a 14-day disaster emergency response status starting 22 September 2026, as a step to accelerate the handling of the impacts of flash floods hitting the area.
The declaration was decided during a coordination meeting attended by the Regent of Solok, Jon Firman Pandu, alongside local government officials and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Solok Regency.
“Public safety is our top priority. All departments are requested to continue working quickly, in an integrated and responsive manner to handle the impacts of the disaster and ensure that the community receives the necessary services and assistance,” said the Regent of Solok, Jon Firman Pandu, during the meeting in Solok on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
The emergency response status serves as the basis for the local government and relevant agencies to implement integrated disaster management.
He stated that the decision was made to accelerate efforts in rescuing the community, meeting the basic needs of affected residents, and managing the impacts of the disaster in several areas of Solok Regency.
The Solok Regency Government also moved to immediately issue a decree regarding the declaration of the emergency response status on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
The issuance of the decision was briefly hindered by administrative challenges, as the Solok Regent’s office complex in Arosuka was also affected by flash floods on the night of Monday, 21 September 2026.
During the emergency period, the local government, along with Forkopimda and relevant parties, will monitor field conditions to track the development of the post-disaster situation.
Disaster impact management, including the evacuation of residents if necessary, is also part of the measures being taken while the emergency status is in effect.
Furthermore, meeting the basic needs of affected communities remains one of the local government’s priorities in disaster management.
The Solok Regency Government and relevant agencies will continue to coordinate to ensure that field operations proceed according to the conditions and needs of the community.
The Regent urged all local government departments, Forkopimda, and other relevant parties to strengthen synergy in facing the disaster conditions in Solok Regency.
The local government also advised the public to remain calm, increase vigilance against the potential for follow-up disasters, and follow the instructions of officers on the ground.
The declaration of the emergency response status is expected to accelerate disaster impact management while supporting the recovery process for the community and the affected areas in Solok Regency.
