Solok Flash Flood: 2 Missing, 4 Injured

Two people remain missing and four others have been injured following a flash flood in the Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on Monday (21/9) night.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton Panjaitan, stated that the flood was caused by high rainfall intensity.

“High-intensity rain triggered the flash flood that hit Nagari Batang Barus, Gunung Talang District. This occurred in Solok Regency, and currently, 2 victims have not yet been found,” Berton said at the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs office in Jakarta, Tuesday (22/9).

He noted that the incident also resulted in four other injuries. Additionally, dozens of residents have been forced to evacuate.

The event also impacted local government offices.

“There is 1 serious injury and 3 minor injuries. Meanwhile, 50 residents are currently displaced. There are 100 houses and 10 government offices affected. A bridge was severed, but it can now be used for emergency purposes. Three vehicles were also affected,” he said.

He added that access to the Solok-Padang road is now passable. Meanwhile, joint search teams have been deployed to sweep the river in search of the missing victims.

“A coordination meeting to determine the disaster status has been conducted by the Deputy Regent of Solok. The Padang-Solok road access is currently normal and can be used with limitations. Data collection regarding the impact is still ongoing,” he concluded.
