Solok extends flash flood emergency response period until 12 October
The Solok Regency Government (Pemkab Solok), West Sumatra, has extended the emergency response period for the Arosuka flash floods until 12 October 2026, as the handling of disaster debris and the recovery of affected areas are still ongoing.
This decision was finalised during an evaluation and emergency status determination meeting held at the Main Post for Arosuka Flash Flood Disaster Management on Saturday.
Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu stated that the extension of the emergency response period is necessary because the disaster management process, which began on 21 September, still requires more time, particularly for cleaning up debris in office areas and affected regions.
“The extension of the emergency response period is being implemented because the handling process still requires time,” he said.
According to him, during this extended period, the local government will continue the management and recovery of affected areas and conduct studies to determine subsequent mitigation steps.
The Solok Regency Government is also strengthening its preparedness for potential increases in rainfall as the rainy season approaches, using weather information as a primary basis for determining management and mitigation measures.
A representative from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that the emergency handling in Solok Regency is showing good, measurable, and directed progress; however, evaluation and cross-sector coordination must continue to be strengthened.
This coordination includes the readiness of personnel and supporting equipment to face evolving field conditions throughout the extended emergency period.
In addition to physical management, the Solok Regency Government is also evaluating the continuity of public services, including the condition of office areas impacted by the flash floods.
To support management efforts until the end of the year, the Solok Regency Government has prepared an additional budget of approximately Rp4 billion, allocated for disaster management needs.
The evaluation meeting was led by Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu alongside Vice Regent Candra and was attended by the Chairperson of the Solok Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Ivoni Munir, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), BNPB, BMKG, and heads of relevant regional government organisations.
