Solok and Tanah Datar Regencies Agree to Maintain Border Stability
Solok (ANTARA) - The Solok Regency Government and the Tanah Datar Regency Government in West Sumatra have agreed to strengthen synergy to maintain stability in border areas, supporting security, public order, and smooth development in both regions.
“The regional government is here to find the best solutions to prevent friction within the community and to preserve the familial relationships that have been established,” said Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu during a meeting with Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra at the Guest House of the Solok Regent’s Official Residence on Saturday.
Jon Firman stated that Solok Regency and Tanah Datar Regency share close historical, social, and cultural ties, giving them a shared responsibility to maintain unity, peace, and community welfare. According to him, boundary issues that have drawn public attention must be resolved through communication, coordination, and deliberation, prioritising the interests of the community while respecting the ongoing process at the central government level.
Beyond discussing boundary matters, Jon also expressed support for the plan to build a TNI battalion by the I/Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command, as it is considered to have a positive impact on security and regional economic growth.
Meanwhile, Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra appreciated the welcome from the Solok Regency Government and described the visit as an effort to strengthen fellowship and inter-regional coordination. Eka urged all parties to keep the situation conducive and to leave the boundary resolution to the central government through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“We hope all parties can exercise restraint and leave the resolution process to the central government. The most important thing is to maintain unity and calm among the communities in both regions,” he said.
Regarding the planned TNI battalion construction, Eka stated that the regional government supports the programme while remaining attentive to the social conditions of the community and prioritising communication to avoid misunderstandings on the ground.
During the meeting, the two regional heads also discussed opportunities for cooperation in various development sectors, particularly agriculture, which is seen as having the potential to improve community welfare. Both regional governments agreed to strengthen communication and coordination in resolving various issues and to promote mutually beneficial development cooperation for the communities of Solok Regency and Tanah Datar Regency.
