Long-distance railway passengers can take advantage of a new currency exchange service at Solo Balapan Station, which opened on Friday, 13 March 2026. The service is a collaboration between PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Regional Operation 6 Yogyakarta and Bank Indonesia to help the public prepare for Eid celebrations.

KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih stated that the service is provided specifically for long-distance train passengers departing from or arriving at Solo Balapan Station on the same day. Currency exchange will be available from 09:00 WIB in front of the Joglo Hall at Solo Balapan Station, whilst quota remains available.

“Through collaboration with Bank Indonesia DIY, KAI Daop 6 provides a new currency exchange service in the station area to facilitate customers who will travel for the Eid holiday. With this service, customers can conveniently exchange new notes before continuing their journey,” Feni told journalists in Solo on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

She explained that the service can only be used by long-distance train passengers with tickets dated the same as the currency exchange schedule. Passengers must also present a valid identity card such as a national ID (KTP). The currency to be exchanged must be brought in cash and cannot be taped, stapled, or attached with any other adhesive.

Bank Indonesia has set a maximum exchange limit of Rp 5.3 million per person with predetermined denominations. The breakdown is as follows: Rp 50,000 notes maximum Rp 2.5 million, Rp 20,000 notes maximum Rp 1 million, Rp 10,000 notes maximum Rp 1 million, Rp 5,000 notes maximum Rp 500,000, Rp 2,000 notes maximum Rp 200,000, and Rp 1,000 notes maximum Rp 100,000.

According to Feni, providing the new currency exchange service at the station is part of KAI’s effort to enhance customer comfort during Ramadan and leading up to Eid al-Fitr.

“KAI Daop 6 urges customers wishing to use this service to pay attention to the schedule and bring a valid long-distance train ticket and national ID on the exchange date. This service is provided on a limited basis according to available quota,” she said.

KAI Daop 6 hopes the service will help the public prepare for Eid celebrations whilst providing a more comfortable train travel experience.
