Soldier shot colleague dead

INDONESIA: A soldier has been shot dead by afellow soldier in Aceh province, AFP reported.

Second Sgt. Zellwijal was shot with a semi-automatic rifle by his colleague, First Pvt. Yuliasri, on Friday in Simpang Paya village, NorthAceh, said Maj. Eddi Fernandi, the Aceh military spokesman.

Zellwijal was part of a military team providing security to the ExxonMobil oil and gas production facilities.

The reason for the shooting is unknown "because the one who did it is still under stress and can't speak," Fernandi said.

One local resident said the gunfire startled people in the area because shootings have rarely been heard since the December 9 signing of a ceasefire agreement between government troops and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM)in the province. --AFP
