PT Sokonindo Automobile has responded to reports of a planned import of 4x4 pickups by Agrinas to support village cooperative operational needs.

CEO of PT Sokonindo Automobile Alexander Barus stated that his company had not been directly involved in the discussions.

“I cannot say that we are ready for it (to fulfil the request) because we were not part of the conversation. But if we are invited now, we will come,” said Alexander in Jakarta on Monday (9 March 2026).

According to Barus, any proposal should include a comprehensive needs assessment covering three key aspects: the type of vehicle drivetrain required, the timeline for delivery, and the number of units needed.

“First, needs assessment, which means understanding what village cooperatives actually need—whether it is truly 4x2 or 4x4. Second, when it is needed. Third, how many units are required,” he explained.

Barus affirmed that DFSK is prepared to offer competitive pricing as long as the requested vehicles align with the company’s existing models. DFSK currently produces a pickup model called the Super Cab in Indonesia, though this model is currently available only in a 4x2 drivetrain configuration.

Barus expressed optimism about the potential benefits of large-scale vehicle procurement programmes for Indonesia’s automotive industry. Such initiatives could increase local production capacity, generate employment opportunities, and reduce the nation’s need for foreign exchange expenditure on imports.

“With 105,000 units, this is an opportunity for us to enhance our mastery of local technology, create jobs domestically, save foreign exchange, and increase automotive sales,” said Alexander.
