News on the escape of Sofyan Dawood, leader of the Free Aceh
Movement (GAM), should not be blown out of proportion. We should
not allow ourselves to be trapped in a situation that is meant to
confuse us. The main point is to determine his escape route,
particularly coastal areas, which are likely to have enabled him
to make good his exit.

Whether he has fled abroad or not, we should be fully aware
that GAM is not only Sofyan Dawood. There must have been
clandestine maneuvers, as indicated by the presence of elite
members of the separatist movement among legislators or
protesters of the military operation. They blame the integrated
operation in Aceh for violating human rights. What kind of human
rights?

Fundamentalism in any form constitutes a threat because it
defies peaceful coexistence with other groups. Fellow citizens
still supporting GAM should therefore realize this and return to
the fold of the Republic.

Let us build Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam for the welfare of its
population!
