Software companies biggest job-creators
NEW DELHI: Indian software and call-center companies were the biggest job-creators in the nation the past two months, according to the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India.
Forty-four percent of the 7,558 job advertisements in newspapers and Websites were from the software and software services businesses, the business group said.
Overseas companies are moving customer-contact services to India to take advantage of the South Asian nation's pool of manpower and its lower wages. The outsourcing industry in India is expected to rise in value to US$15.5 billion from $4 billion now, Mahendra Singhi, president of the chamber, said in a statement released by the group.
Mumbai accounted for 28 percent of the new jobs, while New Delhi-based companies accounted for 24 percent. The southern city of Bangalore accounted for 40 percent of the information technology jobs, the chamber said.
About 32 percent of the jobs offered were from the banking and finance industry, while marketing came third with 11 percent. -- Bloomberg
