Software companies biggest job-creators

NEW DELHI: Indian software and call-center companies were the
biggest job-creators in the nation the past two months, according
to the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India.

Forty-four percent of the 7,558 job advertisements in
newspapers and Websites were from the software and software
services businesses, the business group said.

Overseas companies are moving customer-contact services to
India to take advantage of the South Asian nation's pool of
manpower and its lower wages. The outsourcing industry in India
is expected to rise in value to US$15.5 billion from $4 billion
now, Mahendra Singhi, president of the chamber, said in a
statement released by the group.

Mumbai accounted for 28 percent of the new jobs, while New
Delhi-based companies accounted for 24 percent. The southern city
of Bangalore accounted for 40 percent of the information
technology jobs, the chamber said.

About 32 percent of the jobs offered were from the banking and
finance industry, while marketing came third with 11 percent. --
