SOEs need clean commissioners

SOEs need clean commissioners

JAKARTA (JP): The government should appoint people from the
private sector to sit on the board of commissioners of all state
owned enterprises (SOEs) to help promote good corporate
governance, noted lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis said on Thursday.

Todung, of the Lubis, Santosa and Maulana Law Office, told
reporters that three of the five commissioners at these state
enterprises should be recruited from the private sector.

Currently, in virtually all state enterprises, the five
commissioners are drawn from the government sector.

This condition made the companies vulnerable to abuses of
power, he said after addressing a workshop on good corporate
governance for executives of state enterprises.

The workshop, organized by the Corporate Leadership
Development Institute, saw the participation of representatives
from 266 state enterprises and 40 privates companies. Minister of
Finance Prijadi Praptosuhardjo also addressed the gathering. (05)
