Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 3 Ceiling Collapse Due to Heavy Rain, Commission VI to Summon and Evaluate InJourney
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission VI of the House of Representatives from the Golkar Faction, Firnando Hadityo Ganinduto, revealed that his side will summon the board of directors of InJourney. The summoning follows the collapse of the ceiling in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta), Tangerang, during heavy rain. Firnando stated that the House of Representatives will conduct a thorough evaluation and demand an explanation as to why this incident could occur. “As a follow-up, Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives will soon summon the board of directors of the state-owned enterprise InJourney to seek an explanation and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of this incident. This step is important to ensure system improvements and maintain public trust in the services of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport,” Firnando said in his statement on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Because, he said, the incident triggered by heavy rain temporarily caused panic among passengers, although it resulted in no casualties and operations continued normally. “This incident must serve as a momentum for a comprehensive evaluation of the airport’s infrastructure resilience, especially in facing extreme weather. The airport, as a strategic public facility, must always be in a safe and comfortable condition,” he stated. Firnando highlighted the important role of InJourney as a state-owned enterprise managing the airport, particularly Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which serves as the main gateway for foreign tourists. “The quality of the airport must not only focus on appearance but also on construction strength,” Firnando said. “Weather factors cannot be used as the main excuse, because in the development planning, all risks, including loads due to rainfall, should have been thoroughly calculated,” he continued. Firnando assessed that comprehensive mitigation steps have not yet been visible post-incident, including from the state-owned enterprise InJourney’s management. He emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in explaining the incident to the public as a form of responsibility in managing national infrastructure. It is known that the heavy rain that hit the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport area on Monday (6/4/2026) afternoon not only disrupted flight operations but also triggered the ceiling collapse in the Boarding Lounge area at Gate 7, Terminal 3. The incident, which occurred around 13:40 WIB, temporarily panicked passengers waiting for their departure schedules.
