Soekarno-Hatta Prepares to Break into World's Top 10 Airports

The Indonesian government has set a target for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to break into the ranks of the world’s 10 best airports by 2029. The country’s largest airport currently sits at 22nd place globally.

Mohammad R Pahlevi, President Director of InJourney Airports, said the transformation of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is being accelerated through collaboration with all stakeholders, including InJourney Holding and Danantara Indonesia.

“InJourney Airports has been carrying out the airport transformation since 2024, based on three pillars: premises, people, and process, with technology as a supporting function,” Pahlevi said in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (12/7/2026).

The premises pillar focuses on developing service-oriented airport infrastructure. Meanwhile, the people pillar is directed at delivering world-class staff service, and the process pillar strengthens airport operations on an ecosystem basis.

Pahlevi said a number of transformation programmes have already been realised. One of these is the dedicated Hajj and Umrah Terminal 2F, inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto in 2025.

In the same year, InJourney Airports also reopened Terminal 1C after its revitalisation was completed. The improvement programme for Terminal 3 also earned the terminal a four-star rating from Skytrax.

In 2026, the transformation continues with the revitalisation of Terminal 1A. The programme aims to improve service quality, complete facilities, and increase the terminal’s capacity from 5.7 million to 10 million passengers per year.
