Soekarno-Hatta Airport Optimises Services for Disabled and Elderly Hajj Pilgrims
Tangerang (ANTARA) - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport branch in Tangerang, Banten, is optimising disability-friendly and elderly-friendly services during the Hajj return phase, which takes place from 1–30 June 2026 at Terminal 2F.
“We are ensuring that all priority facilities, service personnel, and operational support are ready to provide the best service so that the arrival process is comfortable and smooth,” said the General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Heru Karyadi, in Tangerang on Wednesday.
He stated that as the arrival gateway for tens of thousands of Hajj pilgrims from the Holy Land, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has prepared various supporting facilities to ensure the arrival process is safe, comfortable, and seamless, particularly for elderly pilgrims and those with special needs. “Some of the pilgrims returning to the homeland are elderly individuals who have undertaken a long journey from Saudi Arabia,” he added.
Heru noted that the service for Hajj pilgrims focuses not only on operational efficiency but also on ensuring every pilgrim receives assistance and comfort while within the airport area. Terminal 2F, which serves as the dedicated terminal for Hajj and Umrah services, is equipped with various facilities to support pilgrim mobility, including disability-friendly access, wheelchairs, comfortable holding areas, and staff ready to provide assistance from the moment pilgrims arrive until they continue their journey to the embarkation hostels.
In addition to facility readiness, Soekarno-Hott Airport, alongside all stakeholders, is refining arrival service flows to accelerate the handling of pilgrims from the moment the aircraft lands until they board the shuttle buses to the Hajj hostels. “Through the new service flow, pilgrims now only require approximately 30 to 40 minutes from disembarking the aircraft until boarding the bus to the Hajj hostel,” he said.
He revealed that the airport is coordinating closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH), airlines, Immigration, Customs and Excise, Quarantine, AirNav Indonesia, and other agencies to ensure integrated services. “We want to ensure that pilgrims can return to their homeland with a good travel experience. The spirit of serving wholeheartedly is our commitment in every service process, including during this year’s Hajj return phase,” he said.
During the Hajj return phase, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will handle the arrival of 34,853 pilgrims divided into 84 flight groups (kloter). The entire arrival process is centralised through Terminal 2F before pilgrims are dispatched to their respective embarkation hostels.
