The closure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau on Sunday (6/9) has been extended for the fourth time, moving from the previous deadline of 13:30 WIB to 17:30 WIB.
This extension of the Soetta Airport closure has been implemented in line with the development of the volcanic ash spread from Mount Anak Krakatau, which is spreading and posing a danger to aviation.
“Through NOTAM [Notice to Airmen] A3arg/26 (NOTAMR A3346/26), Soekarno-Hatta International Airport remains closed due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau,” stated Hermana Soegijantoro, EVP of Corporate Secretary PERUM LPPNPI / AirNav Indonesia, on Sunday (6/9).
“The latest NOTAM is effective from 13:23 WIB, with an estimated reopening at 17:30 WIB on 6 September 2026.”
AirNav stated that it will continue to monitor the development of airspace conditions and the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Aeronautical information updates are being conducted according to developing conditions to support flight safety.
AirNav Indonesia also confirmed that it is continuously coordinating with aviation stakeholders to ensure that information regarding airspace conditions and flight navigation services is delivered in a timely manner.
Initially, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation issued a release regarding the temporary closure of Soetta Airport, from 01:30 WIB to 05:30 WIB.
Subsequently, the closure of Soetta was extended until 09:30 WIB, then to 13:30 WIB, and most recently until 17:30 WIB.
Observations at Terminal 3 of Soetta Airport showed several cleaning staff removing volcanic ash particles visible covering the floors in the area outside the terminal.
Meanwhile, inside the terminal, passengers were seen waiting for certainty regarding their flight schedules affected by the temporary closure.
One passenger, Wulan Sari, stated that she arrived at Soetta Airport around 04:00 WIB for a flight to Singapore at 06:50 WIB. However, her flight was subsequently cancelled after the airline provided information regarding the ongoing situation.
