Soeharto to attend UN conference

JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto plans to attend a United
Nations sponsored international social conference in Copenhagen
in March, Minister/State Secretary Moerdiono said yesterday.

Soeharto and the visiting Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari
agreed to meet at the conference, Moerdiono said when briefing
journalists about the conclusion of Ahtisaari's three-day state
visit.

Soeharto bid Ahtisaari farewell at the Merdeka state palace
yesterday. The state guest is scheduled to leave for Thailand
this afternoon.

"President Soeharto promised to meet the Finnish president
during the conference," Moerdiono said.

The two heads of government reaffirmed their pledge to improve
bilateral cooperation, notably in economy, Moerdiono said.

Ahtisaari visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah yesterday and is
scheduled to play golf with Indonesia's Minister of Foreign
Affairs Ali Alatas this morning at Pantai Indah Kapuk, northern
Jakarta. (pan)
