Soeharto slated to open bazaar
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto is scheduled to open a bazaar
organized by the Arief Rachman Hakim Eksponen '66 organization at
the National Monument on Monday.
The bazaar will be open to public from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
every day until Feb. 16.
The bazaar, called Pasar Rakyat Pasar Murah '96 (People's
Market, Cheap Market '96), commemorates the 30th anniversary of
Supersemar (the March 11, 1966, order allowing Soeharto to
restore order), and to greet Idul Fitri.
The Arief Rachman Hakim Eksponen '66 organization groups
former students who demonstrated in 1966 to topple President
Soekarno. Some members are now ministers, including Minister for
People's Housing Akbar Tanjung and Minister of Finance Mari'e
Muhammad. Former manpower minister Cosmas Batubara is also a
member.
Supersemar is an acronym for Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret, the
order empowering Soeharto to restore security after the 1965
abortive communist coup. The order was given by the then
president Soekarno.
The Arief Rachman Hakim Eksponen '66 will cooperate with Radio
ARH to stage the bazaar. (sur)
