Soeharto receives credentials
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto received letters of credentials from the new Indian and Norwegian ambassadors at a ceremony at the Merdeka Palace yesterday.
Before being posted to Jakarta, Sudhir T. Devare was his country's first ambassador to Ukraine where he served from 1992 until recently, according to the Indian embassy. He was also concurrently ambassador to Armenia and Georgia.
Between 1985 and 1989 Devare, who joined the Indian foreign service in 1964, was ambassador to South Korea.
In his speech after receiving credentials from Norwegian Ambassador Jan Wessel Hegg, the President said as oil producing countries Indonesia and Norway should join hands in the effort to stabilize oil prices.
He said the ideal oil prices are those which do not inflict losses on the producing countries and do not burden the buying ones.(tis)
