Soeharto case not to be postponed
Soeharto case not to be postponed
From Merdeka
Soeharto's trial should not wait until after the general
election because it is not impossible that the next government
will again be in the hands of his cronies. It will make the case
only a dream.
Soeharto should be tried like Marcos and other heads of state
who did the same thing as Soeharto, i.e. considering the state as
their own possession. If necessary, the hearing can be done in an
international court. What is there to wait for? The errors are
very transparent.
Apart from Soeharto, his relatives, children, grandchildren,
ministers, cronies and close acquaintances should also be tried.
They obtained facilities and soft loans. In the latter case,
banking people were also involved. Other parties involved were
Pertamina and PT Timah, which caused a commotion in the 1970s.
Corruption in the Soeharto era started to spread when funds
were needed to build Taman Mini Indonesia Indah and to supply his
foundations in the 1970s. Then, businesspeople who received
business and credit facilities, including government agencies,
had to pay tribute and so, collusion was born. There was,
afterward, nepotism in which all Soeharto's cronies and children,
friends and acquaintances obtained lucrative positions.
What is there to wait for?
