Soedradjat will become professor
Governor of Bank Indonesia J. Soedradjat Djiwandono, 55, will be inducted on Saturday as professor of the School of Economics at the University of Indonesia (UI), at the university's Salemba campus.
At his inducement, Soedradjat is scheduled to present a scientific paper entitled Macro Economy in the Context of the Changing World; Challenges for Macro Policy in the Next Century.
Born in Yogyakarta Soedradjat finished his elementary and junior high school in Purworedjo, Central Java, and completed his senior high school in Surabaya.
Soedradjat received his masters degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, in 1966 and his masters degree in political economy from Boston University, in Boston Massachusetts -- also in the US -- in 1978. He went on to receive his doctoral degree in economics from Boston University in 1980.
He began his career as a researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences in 1964 before he moved to the Economic School of UI in 1979. Soedradjat has also held numerous positions at government agencies, including a special assistant to the Trade Minister and head of bureau at the National Development Planning Board.
Soedradjat was appointed Junior Minister of Trade in 1988 and Governor of Bank Indonesia in 1993.
A father of two, who married Biantiningsih, he will be 14th professor at the School of Economics at UI.(has)
