SOE Supervisory Board Summons PLN Directors to Discuss Streamlining and Energy Security
The Head of the SOE Supervisory Board and COO of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Opesaria, summoned the board of directors of PLN on Tuesday (2/6/2026). Dony outlined several key discussion points during the meeting, ranging from the progress of the PLN Group’s streamlining programme and the realisation of the National Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), to measures for strengthening the electricity system following recent disruptions in Sumatra.
“This meeting is part of the effort to ensure that PLN’s transformation aligns with the national energy security agenda and the strengthening of SOE competitiveness,” Dony stated in a written release in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
During the meeting, Dony noted that PLN presented various strategic steps currently being implemented to bolster company performance and support the reliability of the national electricity supply. He stated that a primary focus is the acceleration of the PLN Group’s streamlining programme through consolidation, divestment, business portfolio restructuring, and the simplification of the business structure.
Dony revealed several corporate action plans for the state-owned electricity company. PLN aims to reduce the number of business entities from 44 to 23 by 2028 to increase operational efficiency, strengthen corporate governance, and create a more focused and integrated business structure.
“Accelerating transformation and strengthening the reliability of the electricity system is key to ensuring PLN can more effectively support national energy security,” Dony remarked.
Beyond corporate transformation, Dony continued that PLN also reported progress on the implementation of the 2025–2034 RUPTL, which shows positive momentum. Of the total planned projects, approximately 1,634 projects, or nearly 40 per cent, have entered the execution phase.
“This achievement reflects PLN’s commitment to accelerating the development of national electricity infrastructure, ranging from the construction of power plants and transmission networks to substations, to meet the ever-increasing energy demand,” he added.
Dony further noted that the discussions highlighted measures to strengthen the electricity system following disruptions in Sumatra. He stated that PLN is continuously conducting evaluations and system reinforcements to improve the reliability of the power supply.
Dony mentioned that several strategic projects are being prepared, including the strengthening of Sumatra’s electricity backbone infrastructure and the construction of 500 kV, 275 kV, and 150 kV transmission networks. Additionally, there are plans to increase power generation capacity in various regions to strengthen system resilience and minimise the risk of future disruptions.
“Through continuous corporate transformation, the accelerated implementation of the RUPTL, and the strengthening of the national electricity system, it is hoped that PLN will be increasingly prepared to fulfil its role as a reliable national electricity provider while supporting economic growth, investment, and Indonesia’s energy transition agenda,” said Dony.
